Going Martha Coakley

Failing in a situation when you have everything set up for you to succeed; requires an enormous amount of incompetence and stupidity. A legitimate epic fail; something that only happens to a complete moron. Refers to the 2010 Massachusetts senate race where Martha Coakley ran one of the worst campaigns and saw an almost default Democratic seat lost to a Republican.
Person 1: How did we lose to the JV team?! We're on the Varsity! We should have won by 50!

Person 2: Dude, I know. I was worried we might become an example of Going Martha Coakley.

Person 1: God, I feel like such a failure. We had everything we needed to win.

Going Martha

Going Martha means when you're so drunk that you have that blank look in your eyes and you go completely nuts beyond control I.e. throwing things, saying mean things, punching the walls, going ballistic.
Last night my husband was so drunk and was saying some vile things to me, he was going Martha.
