Indevious literally means NOT devious. The "in", as with insubstantial or ineffective, negates whatever it precedes. IN + DEVIOUS = NOT DEVIOUS.
The strategy of the aliens, although violent and cunning on the surface, was indevious, even genuine, in its desire to create a better world.
