It is a sacred white thread which is worn by the brahmin boys after they reach the age of twelve at the 'Upanayan Sanskar'. The word 'Upanayan' means the sacred vision to see things in a just way. In fact, the 'Janeu' ceremony is also considered to be one of the most important and pious ones for Brahmin sect.
