Editing in the style of one using a machete; cutting wide swaths in subject matter without regard for precision or discretion.
The student gave the seasoned copy editor his paper with the intent to 'cut it down to size.' Little did he know that the unapologetic veteran of the press would machedit his paper beyond recognition.
