Also known as an 'emotional wall'

An imaginary barrier that someone puts up to avoid or protect themselves from something.

Usually seen in people who've had or are going through troubled or hard times.
Blake: Everly won't talk to me

Braden: Yeah, she's put up a mental wall

Blake: Why?

Braden: Her patents got divorced and I'm pretty sure she doesn't want to get close to us, only to end up like her parents.
