near-price paradox
where one thing A almost enough for thing B, so to fix this problem you shorten thing B's price so that thing A can afford it, but then something else is almost enough for thing B's new price so then you shorten thing B's price again, but then it happens again and again, eventually getting to the point where you have to make it free

guy 1: but i have $4.98
cashier: ok i will shorten the price
