Informal term used occasionally by locals (especially in areas such as Rosebud, Hastings, etc.) to refer to the area south-east of Melbourne known as the Mornington Peninsula.
The word is a contraction of the word ‘Peninsula’ which is in itself an abbreviated way for residents of Melbourne’s eastern and south-eastern suburbs to refer to the Mornington Peninsula.
