Nu-normie
A person with interests that were classically considered 'weird' or 'niche' by most people in the past decades but are becoming increasingly mainstream, such as games, anime, manga, board games, comics and cosplay.
A nu-normie exhibits most of the personality traits of a regular normie, such as conformism / herd mentality, blandness of character, mediocrity, etc. The main difference that justifies the usage of the term as opposed to that of a regular normie is the outlet they use to express themselves. Instead of conforming to classical stereotypes they attempt to conform to the ever-expanding otaku / gamer culture by using their 'interests' and 'hobbies' as a staple of feigned originality and as a means to appeal to the otaku / gamer demographic, with the end goal of becoming more popular and establishing social connections. The process isn't always conscious.
The games / anime / comics etc. they enjoy are based off of common trends and not off their personal subjective enjoyment of the specified media. The typical behavior of a nu-normie includes sharing posts connected to popular memes on social media, listening to hipster genres like vaporwave, praising Filthy Frank / Joji as 'the God of the Internet', playing MOBAs and spending hundreds of dollars on merchandise at conventions. They also exhibit at least average social skills, something in clear defiance of the classical 'nerd' stereotype that used to be associated with the aforementioned otaku culture until recently.

A: Gee, look at Sarah! She's been getting so much attention from all these weebs at the conventions she goes to, all because of her obscene cosplays! Wish I were as good as her at cosplay T_T
B: You're such a nu-normie sometimes...
John has been trying to pick up girls at comic-con for the last 5 years, to no avail. He's trying to impress them with his cool Rorschach merch. He's such a nu-normie.
Oh, dang! A Halloween party? Can't wait to have a drunken orgy while wearing my favorite Avatar: The Last Airbender cosplay. Being a nu-normie has its upsides!

Nu-normie
A person whose interests were classically considered 'weird' or 'niche' until recently but have become increasingly more mainstream over the last decade, including video games, anime, manga, comics and cosplay.
Nu-normies exhibit personality traits often associated with regular normies, such as conformism, blandness, hopping on bandwagons etc. The main distinction between regular normies and nu-normies is the outlet they use to express themselves. Instead of trying to conform to classical stereotypes, nu-normies attempt to fit in within the otaku / gamer culture, with the end goal of becoming more popular. Not necessarily a conscious process. Their interests are based on trends instead of a subjective enjoyment of the media.
Typical nu-normie behaviors include going to Comic-Con, spending hundreds of dollars on merchandise, sharing popular memes on social media, praising Joji / Filthy Frank as 'God of the Internet' and listening to hipster genres like vaprowave. They also tend to have at least average social skills, something in direct defiance to the 'nerd' stereotype which used to be associated with the aforementioned media.
