The idea was that positive psychology would solve society's problems. The word works because its silly. Its meaning is created through its association.

Depression: "I want to kill myself"
Healer: "Nooo don't kill yourself I've got a healing word for you it'll bring your life meaning!"
Depression: "No I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna kill myself."
Healer: "Just say pacow!"
Depression:"what?"
Healer: "Just say it out loud you'll understand later"
Depression: "Pacow!"
(Depression does not kill himself and becomes happy)
