the territory between the Maule River and the surroundings of what was called La Frontera, with the southern margin on the Biobío River with Concepción as its head, antagonistic to Chile in colonial times, its countrymen were called penquistas and had a much less feudal society than the Chileans since they had more free towns and fewer estates.
