Plant step
Step that initiates marching in marching band. The forward march is performed by forcing your left foot forward with your calf muscles with your heel on the ground and your toes in the air at about a 60 degree angle. The backwards march is performed by going up onto your toes as high as possible while balance is kept with your knees bent. From there, the left foot is moved backward while the toes are still firmly on the ground. This should make a "swish" or a "swoosh" sound. The vocal command for a plant step is "Hup hup ready" and is answered by yelling "Plant" or "Up and one" respectively.
The drum major gave the count-off and I performed the plant step.
