Poila Boishakh

The first day of Bengali calendar has been observed for thousands of years by Bengali Hindus with cultural and religious fervor although nowadays people of other religions also celebrate this festival. It was first officially and broadly observed by Shashanka— the first great King of Bengal. People of West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, and Bangladesh celebrate this day.
On the day of Poila Boishakh, people worship God Ganesh and Devi Lakshmi for the prosperity of the world.

Poila Boishakh is differently celebrated by the people of Bangladesh, and it's known as Pohela Boishakh.

It means new. New everything. It could be a day or year or start. Its an old bengali word. It comes from an ancient time. Usually people say poila for year but it really can be used for anything that is new. Poila dress sounds goo too
