Baník
FC Baník Ostrava.
Ostrava's soccer team, formerly SK Slezská Ostrava
Fans are called Chachaři.
The club was founded in 1922 as SK Slezská Ostrava, when 20 activists signed the establishment treaty in the U Dubu restaurant. The signatories were mostly poor coal miners from the Kamenec coal mining settlement in Ostrava.
The club is loved by it's fans, who lovingly call it "Baníček".
Many famous Czech soccer players started in Baník, for example Milan Baroš, Marek Jankulovski, Peter Drozd, Martin Raška, Jan Laštůvka or Václav Svěrkoš.
The home-field of Baník used to be Stará Střelnice (till the 50s), then the well known Bazaly , but due to it's bad condition the club has moved to the city stadium in Vítkovice.
