soxter
British term for the unfashionable practice of wearing, shorts, sock and open-toed sandals. Particularly associated with University professors in the late sixties and early seventies, hinting at their origin as hippies.
My math tutor was such a nerd. A soxter with a big bushy beard, a corduroy jacket with patches on the elbows and the obilgatory a tie-dyed t-shirt. You just knew he had a CND membership card tucked away in his wallet somewhere.
