a17n
Pronounced, “a-seventeen-n,” or, “absurd abbreviation.”
n. A stylized abbreviation of the term, “absurd abbreviation,” which both employs and refers to a technique of further obfuscating an easily typed term of art by taking its first and last letter and replacing its interior with the number of letters omitted. a17n is particularly relevant when identifying use of such abbreviations in places where it provides little benefit (i.e., anywhere outside of software code).
v. To engage in the act of creating or propagating a17ns.
