teufelhunden
teufelhunden was a slang term given American Marines by their German opponents after the capture of Belleau Woods in 1918. The word in German meant "Devil dogs" which the American Marines later on adopted the image into the USMC. Soon after the image of the devil dogs represented the marine corps in many recruitment posters used throughout the war.
