The City
A nickname used for New York City. New York City is according to most sources – The Greatest City in the World and/or the Capital of the World. The only other city that may have claim over the nickname "The City" is London and possibly Tokyo. Los Angeles is not "The City", Paris is not "The City", Rome is not "The City", Chicago is definitely NOT "The City" and San Francisco is definitely NOT "The City".
This is the hierarchy of cities:
Tier 1a: New York City – "The City", London and Tokyo
Tier 1b: Paris, Rome, Hong Kong
Tier 2a: Los Angeles, Beijing, Shanghai
