It wasn’t difficult to insinuate myself into the Roosevelt Rough Riders. The objective truth that as a British woman with an aristocratic name and fine livery apparently straight from an African safari, including my Holland & Holland thrumpmusket; my cover story was that I was a scion of the family owning the London Times and I simply explained that we were interested in covering individuals we saw as potential future Presidents of the United States.
