Tuani

Tuani is a Nicaraguan slam... Tuani mean's... "awesome" something cool.

Costa Rican slang:

1. Adjective used to denote a general sense of wellbeing.

2. Noun that indicates coolness.

3. Synonym to the phrase pura vida.

4. Sometimes used as a salutation or affirmation.

This word was created from a tico slang called Malespín. The costarican army, in the middle of the war with Nicaragua, found that the military orders were intercepted by the "nica" spies. The general Malespín proposed that the letter A was changed by E, the I by O, M to P and T to B.

So Tuanis is the code word from "Buenos" (good, great) in Malespín.

Also "Malos" (bad, evil) is Pelis or Work ("Trabajo") is "Brete" ("Breteji", actually. We drop the last two letters with the time).

A greeting or exclamation used in Costa Rica with no specific definition, but means something equivalent to "ain't it great!", "life is good", "it's all good", "hakuna matata". It is synonymous with the more common expression pura vida, but is much more hip, especially when spoken by a gringo.
