The initials stand for Yellow Ski Vest, an item of clothing which at the time was terribly un-chic, and conjoured up the image of a farmtown cowboy ski-bum. This in an era when those in-the-know had their fashion radar aimed firmly at London, carefully camoflaging any hint at down-home roots. Now, of course who knows? Perhaps the Yellow Ski Vest would be viewed as 'hot'?
