俚语 boyle's law
释义

Boyle's Law

A law inherent in nature that states that everything that goes wrong in life is all Boyle's fault. It is mathematically represented by the formula Fault = Boyle(pi)^2 / DM, where DM equals the coefficient of Doug Mirabelli, experimentally found by the scientist and religious guru Bhanu Lama to have a value of 5.47 x 10^-3.
Man, I totally flunked that test yesterday. If Boyle hadn't fucked it up, I would've passed. Citing Boyle's Law, I know that it's all Boyle's fault.

Boyle's Law

In London England, people, for whatever reason, tend to walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk. Everywhere else in the world, people generally walk on the same side of te sidewalk that they drive their car on. Maybe it's because they are so posh. Maybe it's because the Underground, or The Tube (lah-dee-dah!) helps to confuse people by telling them to stand on the right on the escalators while people overtake them on the left, but then in the walking tunnels and bike lanes tell them the opposite. Whatever it is, one London, L. Boyle, caught wind of this from a Canadian and invented a law:

Boyle's Law - walk on the same damn side of the sidewalk you drive on. Cut the shit or you're getting a shoulder.
You dumb bloke, you're walking on the wrong side of the sidewalk! Haven't you ever heard of fuckin' Boyle's Law??

Boyle's Law

Any amount of liquor or beer consumed is equally proportionate to the amount of liquor or beer that will be urinated onto someone's couch.
According to Boyle's Law, Joe drank four beers and pissed four beers worth of urine onto my couch last night.

Boyle's Law

In contrast to others definitions of this, the actual Boyle's law, commonly referred to as the Boyle-Mariotte Law (Mariotte's law in France, describes the relationship between pressure and volume of a confined gas.

The equation is usually written as PV = k where pressure multiplied by volume equals some constant k.

The law in simplest terms states that when the temperature of a given mass of confined gas is constant, the product of its pressure and volume is also constant.

If boyle's law is comparing the same substance under two different sets of conditions, the law can be expressed as P1V1 (1 being subscript), = P2V2 (2 being subscript). This means that as volume increases, the pressure fo a gas decreases proportionally, and vice versa.

Boyle's law can be applied, and is applied to divers. Such that if a diver takes a lung full of air while they are underwater, that air will expand in his lungs as he rises to the surface. If the diver holds his breath, or ascends too rapidly, such as comparable to a cork being opened in a quick motion, the expanding air can thereforth rupture his lungs. This is reason number one why exploring the ocean can be dangerous, save whatever creatures co-exist in the deep blue. This law can be used in tandem with Charles' Law, Gay-Lussac's Law, Henry's Law, and Dalton's law.

Boyle's Law, Charles's Law, and Gay-Lussac's law form what is known as the Combined Gas Law, or the General Gas Equation.
Person 1 to a diver: "Remember Boyle's Law. Whatever you do when surfacing, DO NOT rise quickly. Take your time."
