(verb) 1. When one Democrat tries to tag another with the label "elitist," or otherwise employ pseudo-populist Republican-style "wedge issue" politics.
2. To engage in desperate pre-election name calling.
Term derived from the name of Machinists' Union President Thomas Buffenbarger. In a February 2008 speech on behalf of Hillary Clinton, Buffenbarger slammed Obama supporters as "latte-drinking, Prius-driving, Birkenstock-wearing, trust fund babies."
