Byron Syndrome
When you bingewatch a TV show for several hours, and then turn your TV off: Byron syndrome refers to the sadness you feel knowing that the characters of the show are not apart of your life and will never know you. The word Byron comes from a popular example of this, where people feel sad that they will never know Kari Byron, star of the show Mythbusters, in real life.
Guy 1: "Fuck dude."
Guy 2: "What?"
Guy 1: "I watched so much fucking mythbusters last night. I've got Byron syndrome."
Guy 2 "Shit man I feel you. It's like, Kari Byron is the quintessential early 2000's queen. She's pretty, smart, and down to earth. It's not even that you necessarily want to date her, its more like--"
Guy 1: "Like you just want to be in her life at all... like a friend or neighbor or something."
Guy 2: "Exactly dude."
Guy 1: "I just feel so creepy saying that out loud."
Guy 2 : "Nah dude. It's a totally reasonable, innocent, and valid feeling in it of itself that society has made perverted, not you. There's nothing wrong with being attracted to somebody, nor wanting to be somebody's friend. It's just that people deem speaking honestly and openly about even the most innocent desires to be taboo, I suppose as a survival instinct because they don't technically know your true intentions. However, in the confidence of your own home, and to your own friend, you can say things openly without judgement. And if you seem truly invalid or creepy, I'll let you know, bro.
Guy 1: "True shit dude. True shit."
