Carterville High School
A small school comprising of the towns of Carterville, Crainville, and Cambria, Illinois. The school has a population of 550, but is growing. The colors are orange and navy blue and the mascot is the lion. Football is the primary sport in Carterville as the school board built a multi-million dollar football field, with artificial turf. A powerhouse in the CBC, CHS is moving to the bigger River-to-river Conference. With academics a priority, the school has some of the best test scores in the state. The students take vast pride in their teams and are led by Captain Carterville, the unofficial mascot. The band is one of the better ones in the region, known for their powerful brass and drumline. Although the current building is close to 100 years old, the district is moving to a brand-new, 750 student high school in 2012. Known for its rich academic and athletic background, CHS is the premeire high school in Southern Illinois.

Graduates fill the played out coal mines of Southern Illinois, the rolls of the disabled (SSI) and the Illinois state Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and General Assistance (GA) rolls.
