Used in former Spanish colonies especially the Philippines. Definition: A young lady attending an all female academic institution, usually run by a religious Order. The school is usually a convent doubling as a school. Until the '60s even the teaching and administrative staff were female. The student may be in the grades, high school or college.
A parent who has just enrolled a daughter in an "exclusive" and probably expensive school run by nuns of a prestigious Order: "Remember, you are now a colegiala, so always behave properly.
