Corrieaklet
describes the phenomenon where when you see someone you know walking down a hallway who also recognizes you and in order to spare the awkwardness of saying hello too preemptively and maintaining friendliness over a a sustained distance you both pretend not to notice each other until you are closer to passing by each other.
When John and Pamela were walking towards each other, John coming from detention, Pamela from her sex education class, both noticed each other and immediately looked away. Memories of the night before lingered but they couldn't let on to their class-mates. They were from different world's, him the talented jazz protege and star badminton player, her the daughter of a classical mid-west oil tycoon who hated jazz and threatened to cut off Pamela's inheritance if she had anything to do with John. It was such a Corrieaklet.
