2008core
A preoccupation with "the economy" and "politics", insofar as those things affect or appear to affect individuals' personal lives and without a nuanced or even basic understanding of what those things actually are or how they operate. Most common among middle-class white liberals, those engaged in 2008core will consume inordinate amounts of corporate mass media and repeat the talking points verbatim, leading them to frequently namecheck major financial or geopolitical organizations or concepts such as the NASDAQ and Dow Jones, the UN, NATO, etc. without fully knowing why they are relevant, only that they have something to do with gas prices or their mortgage or the footage of explosions in The Middle East(TM) they saw last night.
Bleeds into 2016core, a related aesthetic primarily affecting the same demographics as 2008core, in which individuals handwring about civic virtue, political polarization, and the moral fiber of their nation without the historical background to understand, contextualize, or critique those ideas.

"My mom spent three hours the other day talking about how the banks are making vegetables more expensive in Syria or something."
"Jesus, that's pretty 2008core."
