Over time, the followers of the fringe group convince themselves that the original idea was never real or had never existed. Many conspiracy theories that began on 4chan as memes, spiraled into these fallacies
The Flat Earth movement picked up steam after many users of meme discussion board experienced the Fight Club Effect and lost their sense of reality within the joke
