When skiing or snowboarding in cold weater for a prolonged period of time, one begins to get a runny nose. With no kleenex farms on the mountain, one must sniffle to keep the runny nose in line. The name comes from a play on the words Ski and Sniffles.
When Ashley was going up the ski lift, she begin to get a rather severe case of the skiffles.
